So that got me thinking. What qualifies as being throwback?
via Twitter |
Throwback Thursday has been popular on Facebook and Twitter for quite sometime and typically features people posting pictures from back in their high school days (if they are old like me) or from the younger years as little kids. All the major sports have brought back old jerseys, or throwbacks, in recent years.
From those two examples I picture throwbacks being something much much older than just a year or two. The term is defined as:
a reversion to an earlier ancestral characteristic. So the definition of the term agrees with me.
"the eyes could be an ancestral throwback"
a person or thing having the characteristics of a former time.
"a lot of his work is a throwback to the fifties"
Why does this matter? In the scheme of things it doesn't, but I find it annoying as hell that something referred to itself as throwback and then played something that I had yet to have time to forget.
There is a reason why NFL teams don't bring back the jerseys they had just five years ago. Most folks would not notice much of a difference if they did. They certainly wouldn't generate much excitement since folks had not had a chance to forgot about them yet.
Don't call yourself something your not radio stations. Folks don't like to be tricked in to listening to one thing while they think they are going to be listening to another.
